Biography

The son of European immigrants, Giovanni Zelko was born and raised in N.Y. while spending many summers in his parent’s native countries of Italy and Slovenia, giving him a unique mixture of European and American sensibilities that are pronounced in his writings. He was educated at Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Science for Film, (see his book on film theory "Living the Dream," and his screenplays,) as well as a Minor of Arts for English Literature, (see his book of poetry, "A Modern Decameron," which includes an extensive forward essay analyzing the relationship of love and poetry throughout the literature of human history.) During his four years at Boston University, he also pursued studies in History where his field of concentration was European Medieval History, (see his documentary script "The First Crusade & The Apocalypse," which is based on his fifty page term paper and over a year of further research.)

Ever the student and lover of reading, he has never ceased his studies in history and literature, with an especial affinity for ancient Greek and Roman. He has matched his studies with experience on a global scale by his untiring desire to travel, exploring 40 countries across the world, from Asia & the Middle East, to Europe & the Americas (see PHOTOGRAPHY for Travel Gallery.) Always the patient observer while traveling, Giovanni arms himself with pen in one hand, and camera in the other.

When he’s not travelling abroad or staying at his summer home in Italy, he resides in Los Angeles where he works as a free-lance photographer and a film lighting technician. After ten years of inspirational work, he has finished a labor of love, his new book "BODY OF POETRY", a combination of nude photographs and love poetry.
